Meet Our Leadership

Camp Chief Ouray is staffed with a year-round leadership team. They are joined seasonally by staff that fill roles as camp counselors and specialists.

Alison is excited to be a part of the CCO team. With over 15 years of youth development and YMCA experience, Alison is passionate about the mission of the Y and helping youth learn, grow, and thrive in a safe environment. Hailing from Michigan, she is still in awe of the mountain scenery and wildlife CCO has to offer. Alison loves the outdoors and has enjoyed exploring Colorado. Alison also has a summer camp dog, Duke!

Kelvina Doss Email Kelvina Doss

Kelvina has been on many adventures leading up to this one! Most recently she has been teaching outdoor education on the ancestral land of the Southern Sierra Miwok in Yosemite National Park. She has a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science/Veterinary Medicine and a master’s degree in Agricultural and Environmental Education. Kelvina is thrilled to join the Camp Chief Ouray team in this role and begin her career with the YMCA. Mentoring and leadership development have been valuable in her efforts of helping youth build confidence and make lifelong connections to the natural world around them. Kelvina is eager to be back in Colorado and begin creating new memories.

Emma is excited to be a part of the year-round team at CCO after attending CCO as a camper and working seasonally for 6 summers. She graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in psychology and has experience working with multiple types of youth programming, including summer camps, before and after school care, and outdoor education. She is passionate about providing safe opportunities for youth to explore the outdoors, gain new skills, and develop into caring individuals. She loves sunny days, spending time with loved ones and working with her service dog-in-training.

Claudia Medina Email Claudia Medina

Claudia worked at CCO 4 summers as a cabin counselor, media intern, assistant summer camp director and day camp director. She grew up in Denver and graduated from Chapman University with a B.S. in Business Administration. She enjoys cooking, spending time with animals and friends, media, and taking long sunset walks with a warm breeze. Claudia loves all things camp and hopes to become more active outdoors now that she is in Granby. She is very happy and excited to join the year-round staff and help propel camp into the future.

Safety Is Our Priority

CCO staff members undergo an extensive interview process and professional training before they work with campers. All staff (including kitchen and maintenance) are fingerprinted, background checked through FBI, CBI, and TRAILS, a check on the National Sex Offenders sites, have reference checks, plus go through multiple trainings on Child Abuse Prevention. We are licensed by Colorado Child Care following all laws, and we are accredited through the American Camp Association (ACA) and Praesidium. During staff training, our team goes through a variety of lessons including topics around the following:

  • First Aid & CPR
  • Child Abuse Prevention Training
  • Risk Management
  • Youth Development
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Wilderness First Aid (Challenger and Trips Staff)
