The CWIT program is for participants who have completed the 11th grade, completed CCO’s Trail Blazer riding level (or those with equivalent skill), and are genuinely interested in acquiring the skills necessary to be a camp counselor. The group will participate in a 4-day/3-night backpacking trip in Rocky Mountain National Park, a one day raft trip on the upper Colorado River, a Leave No Trace awareness course, a community service project, and training sessions similar to our staff training. The final two weeks are spent observing and assisting in the leadership of camp programs. CWITs will focus on developing skills needed to effectively teach riding lessons as well as how to be a great counselor.
This program involves an application and selection process that requires initiative and dedication from the camper.
On your application, please sign up for a CIT session. There will be a choice to add CWIT later in the registration process.
Prerequisite: Know how to groom, bridle, saddle, and control the horse at a walk, trot and canter.
