BUILDING CONFIDENCE. TEACHING INDEPENDENCE.
Camp Chief Ouray is proud to serve children from all over the world through week-long or half-week camp programs. Located at 8,750 feet above sea-level in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, CCO offers programs that build confidence, independence and resilience.
TRADITIONAL CAMP (Sun – Sat)
Campers live in cabins of up to 10 campers and 2 staff members. This community living builds a campers ability to group problem solve, make group decisions, and becomes the core of their experience.
The activities at camp consist of a mix between cabin activities including a camp out night under the stars, group activities of campers of similar ages, and freedom of choice activities (FOCA) which campers choose. This mixture of activities allows for bonding with cabin mates and the ability to branch out to new friends of all ages.
The campers during this week will be under the watchful eye of our counselors who are 18 or older and receive 10 days of training on working with campers of different age groups. Each one is background checked (fingerprinted, FBI/CBI, Trails, Sex Offender Search) and also go through training on prevention of child abuse through The Redwoods Group and Praesidium.
We strive to ensure that every Camp Chief Ouray camper has a memorable experience. We offer scholarships to help make the experience affordable for all families.
MINI CAMP (3-day, 2-night experience)
Mini Camp at Camp Chief Ouray is a 3-day/2-night experience in the Rocky Mountains for ages 7-12. Campers will get a chance to try many different activities that help them identify with a certain part of camp, whether it is the cabins and making new friends (10 campers:2 staff ratio) or the activities offered during this short week. This will help build their confidence in staying at camp, and also build the parent’s confidence in having their child away from home.
