The itinerary for this program varies by session, though all participants in each session will do the same activities. Each SIT session includes:
- A 4-day rafting trip on the Upper Colorado River
- A 5-day mountain biking trip outside Fraser, CO
- A 5-day backpacking trip in Rocky Mountain National Park.
- All SIT sessions also complete a trail-work based service project and do a day hike in a local wilderness area.
Leadership and skill-based topics covered during SIT include Leave No Trace, trip preparation and packing, navigation with map and compass, triangulation, off-trail travel, risk management, basic mountain bike maintenance and repair, river travel and terminology, group dynamics, conflict resolution, leading groups in the backcountry, leading by example, and leadership outside CCO.
This program involves an application and selection process that requires initiative and dedication from the camper. Steps of the application include submitting a letter of recommendation (for applicants new to CCO’s Leadership Training programs), submitting supplemental questions, and completing a phone interview. Enrollment can not be confirmed until all steps are complete.
Weekend camp is available after odd-numbered sessions. If your camper is planning on participating in another program directly before or after their SIT session, please check to see that weekend camp is available.

“The best part of SIT was getting to do things I never would have gotten the opportunity to do at home like rafting and mountain biking.” -SIT Camper
